A: B’s been working full-time for a couple weeks now and so I tried reading my book again while he worked. I also ate an ice cream sandwich for breakfast. B was so distracted by work, he didn’t even try to sell me on anything healthier. This is how busy he’s been! Me? Well, I got a concussion and basically stared at a wall for 7 days. But B took care of me so I love him and kept quiet while he caught up.
B: I remember the ice cream sandwiches and not much else. I know I was starting to feel really stressed.
I think A tried to do a few things herself and then needed my help and I was upset for being pulled away from my work. I always get upset when I’m focusing and then get distracted, it’s a reaction and not one I love.
There was a lot of stuff I wanted to finish working on and I know A needed my attention and I felt bad for feeling upset. It wasn’t me being upset with her but the situation. But I know I took this out on her…for which I feel sorry for.
Paleo Baking and Fascial Stretching
Date #180 – Jan 26, 2014
A: We didn’t go outside ONCE all day Sunday. Thankfully, come about 9pm, we made cookies which sustained us until Monday. Oh gosh, these paleo cookies are good and filling. We doubled the recipe and used one cup almond meal and one cup buckwheat flour and they were so moist and non-crumbly (usually they’re quite crumbly due to only using almond meal). Easily my favourite cookies on the market right now, and incredibly easy to make.
B: The two most memorable things from this date are the cookies and the book on Fascia I finished. The cookies were great because they were Paleo but also because I tried buckwheat flour for the first time (Buckwheat is actually a seed). The flour is gooey and sticky, much more like the texture of All-Purpose Flour.
The book I finished was a short, free eBook called Why Fascia Matters. I already knew Fascia (the connective tissue in our bodies) was important and a major factor in injury and recovery, but I didn’t know HOW important it is. I love learning about stretching and taking care of our bodies.
At one point I saw A get off her chair and start rolling around on the lacrosse ball I got her, that makes all my learning and sharing worthwhile.
Crossfit!! – Date #168 – January 12th
A: After the epic breakfast pictured above (it really isn’t impossible to transition into better foods and both of us can catch over coffee if you’re keen) I did an intro class, which B did too, at Academy of Lions. It was awesome. I can definitely see how people can get really into the sport. It’s fun to fantasize about doing crossfit with B because this class was so fun and I think we push each other to try hard and work hard and to feel good. It’s important to both of us. One day when I’m rich I’ll be able to everything I want – yoga, crossfit, swimming…….. #goals! For now, other than swimming, B and I are doing some exercises at home.
We joked about recording our home sessions but I don’t think anyone wants to see us half naked and extremely haggard at 11pm doing yoga or skipping while trying to keep two cats off our mats. It is a pretty hilarious time, though.
B: For anyone who is wondering, the breakast is a mixture of Hemp, Chia, and Buckwheat with Hemp Milk. Here is the recipe. I also made some sport drinks with lemon juice, dates, coconut oil and more.
I’m happy A is so interested in Crossfit. I can tell that if she starts doing Crossfit it will push me a lot more. Which is awesome. The daily yoga we’re doing is great too!
Packers losing their playoff game boooohoo – Date #163 – January 5th
A: My team lost 🙁 and that’s all I’ll say.
We had a nice morning. B worked on his podcast and I did… something. I don’t know. It was a Sunday. (I am so happy to just have Sundays now. B and me, doing whatever is sweatpants. On our computers. Reading. Eating clean. Coffee. Having a chat. Having a pint at the bar around the corner. It’s so awesome! Does this mean I’m old now?)
B: I was working on the latest episode of Academy of Lions Radio and, at least I think, it’s a good one. It features some of the best Olympic Weightlifters who have every lived. I like that I can work on something that requires so much concentration around A and feel comfortable.
I really wanted to watch the Wildcard game between San Francisco and Green Bay. Unfortunately, when I searched “best places to watch football in Toronto,” I forgot to recognize some of those results may mean what many in North America call “Soccer.” So, A and I ended up at a very rough English “Football” watering hole. The regulars were not impressed.
A’s friend had to deal with being impolitely hit on (the man was at least 30 years older and visibly drunk) and we heard at least a few people remark “What the fuck is this on TV?!?”
I stil had a great time ignoring all that and getting in to the game. It was a good one (even though the Packers lost).
Work and Once – Date #84 – October 6, 2013
A: I spent the day watching Once until B came over after work – something I wasn’t expecting him to do. It was nice because I wasn’t feeling that great and he was interested in keeping me company. I have the best boyfriend in the world, basically.
B: I came over after work and A was watching bad TV in bed. I tried to reserve my comments because she was sick and A writes TV and already knows what’s good and what’s bad. We eventually finished watching This Is The End, which was a mediocre movie. I got A some medicine and I hope I made her feel better.
